Basically, Knowledge Management (KM) describes how processes participants (particularly decision processes) utilize all resources (particularly information resources) to achieve their goals with precision, accuracy, on time and on budget inside every organization. In order to reach this objective, Knowledge Management comprises Information Systems for capture and shows participants or users best expertise, Human Resources Administration for selecting, take and learn their best talents and expertise in their knowledge areas, documented and undocumented procedures with business rules for standardize organization’s activities and Finance for quantifying their talent and expertise value, performance and importance for the organization.

From this point of view, Knowledge Management is focused in how every key employee of an organization executes her key activities timely, without errors, following business rules (or not), how this business rules are efficient and effective (or not) and how this employee make decisions: which information pieces support this decisions and how this information pieces can configure some behaviors (or not).

Additionally from this perspective, Business Intelligence is a tool, a resource to be used for participants to make decisions. BI describes how organization is making business and how much focused is organization about achieving its goals.

Business Intelligence is about organization’s performance, Knowledge Management is about organization’s behavior in order to obtain the best way to make best business activities (particularly decisions). Here is the key about these two definitions. Other way to understand these definitions, differences and relationships is: BI describes the performance of organization’s activities and KM describes the organization’s components activities that produce the obtained performance. BI captures and tries to improve business results, KM captures and tries to improve organization processes and activities.

Business Intelligence and Knowledge Management together are capable to dramatically improve overall performance of any organization, but it is necessary to understand, plan and apply every implementation carefully. All BI and KM implementations must be fully supported by all organization’s stakeholders and executive levels. With their full commitment, these tools can boost all organization’s personnel productivity and, of course, profitability.

Strategies are of little value if they are not implemented effectively. But implementation is difficult in an already busy schedule.

Unless each follower can see where they fit and what they need to contribute; the chances of a strategy being effectively implemented are low. The key is to explicitly show each follower what they need to do, when and with whom. This may sound impossible, but I will tell you how it can be done.

Firstly let’s consider some of the workplace dynamics that work against implementing a strategy: * There is not enough time to do everything that needs to be done * Action plans are poorly aligned to strategic plans * Leaders are unsure about what is actually happening * Followers find it hard to identify exactly when and how they need to contribute to a strategy * Important actions are sometimes missed or forgotten, so workflows are interrupted * Complete lists of actions are rare, so personal time management is hard * Often followers are not aware of the consequences of not doing an action allocated to them * Relevant changes are poorly communicated to the people who need to know * Followers see telling other people what they are doing as wasted (unproductive) time.

To overcome these unhelpful workplace dynamics, we need to do the following: * Break strategic plans into a number of related action plans * Identify the actions required to complete each action plan * Populate each follower’s ToDo list with the actions they need to do for the strategic plan * Make responsibility and accountability clear * Keep followers informed about relevant changes * Automate reporting based on actions completed to minimize unproductive time

Unfortunately the level of training and discipline required to implement the above list of actions is unrealistic and unachievable in real life. However experience in many workplaces has shown that a leader using smart software on web or mobile browsers can create a leadership platform to implement the above list of actions with relative ease.

The key is to let the software execute the boring, but essential, management processes in the background and present relevant information from each person’s perspective. This keeps leaders informed, frees followers to do productive work, and gets strategies implemented in record time.

The property market in the north of England could undergo a period of revolution thanks to ongoing market turmoil in London. For evidence for this look no further than the rise of companies providing storage in Leeds. They’re banking on migration away from the capital as people go in search of better value living elsewhere in the country.

On the one hand times have been tough for storage in Leeds in recent years. It’s the same problem all over the country and across all industries. There is a suggestion that the market has become over saturated, especially when you consider the close links the storage industry has with the property market.

Brisk sales in property will obviously be highly beneficial as new home owners seek locations for storage in Leeds and the surrounding area. Many people may be temporarily renting waiting for their property to become available. If that’s the case then accessible and reliable solutions become a major priority.

So is the market likely to rebound? A number of firms are setting up funds in the hope that they can capitalise on low property prices. They expect Leeds to become an increasingly popular destination for businesses as they search for a cheaper alternative to London’s exorbitant prices.

The process is already underway. Many firms are hoping to save money by relocating from the capital. Some are bringing current workforce with them while others are having to find new staff. When you think about it, this should not be a surprise. Thanks to improved communications, the location of a business is or should be a lower priority than once was the case. More industries have the option of becoming footloose drawing clients and services not just from around the country, but also from around the world.

The government should be doing everything in its power to encourage this trend. First of all the prospect of the nation becoming less centralised around the capital must be encouraging. Equally, it’s obviously far preferable for a company to relocate elsewhere in the country than, for example, moving all the way to India.

The prospect for storage in Leeds is therefore highly promising. Managers will be shaping their mid to long term corporate strategy on the need to capture this incoming business. Some are already opening up depots in close proximity to new developments hoping to capture business from both private individuals and businesses moving into the area. Competition will be fierce. It will be survival of the fittest, but those making good preparations now stand to prosper later.

For companies with a dust extractor electronically monitoring the dust emission avoids dust pollution and save costs through reducing the electricity consumption, longer life of dust bags as well as staff productivity with significant health benefits.

In the current political climate worldwide, there is a growing demand for manufacturing plants to become cleaner and environmentally responsible to make sure the benefit of clean air will be enjoyed today and for future generations.

One significant and efficient way to improve the air quality and reduce power consumption for your manufacturing plant is to look at the resources used in your production run. For many companies, electricity is a huge expense. The forecast from the power stations of an increase up to 60% over the next few years will put pressure on the companies to reduce the power consumption.

Dust collectors commonly operate fixed interval pulsing of the valves regardless of the need. As they do not have a on demand cleaning, there is no monitoring capability that will give you the flexibility to operate dust extraction at the time of need as opposed to continually.

Pulsing is a compressor generated high pressure air stream which goes through a valve and into the dust bags. The air stream shakes the dust of the bags and the dust falls into a bin. To generate these airstreams takes a lot of electricity to power up the compressor. Most companies use this common procedure.

The solution is to reduce the pulsing and therefore the need for electrically generated compressed air. Using differential pressure and on demand cleaning together with a on demand cleaner board will give you greater dust control over your dust extractors. By using this method, the savings can be as high as 70% in some cases, but the average saving is between 30-40%.

The next common cause for using excesses of compressed air is through valve malfunction. There are two ways that this can occur. The first is when the valve is always open allowing a constant and uninterrupted stream of compressed air through. The second is when the valve is constantly closed. This will cause the dust extractor bags to be clogged up with dust and a significant increase in differential pressure. A message will then be sent to the dust controller to pulse more frequently. Both problems will generate a much higher demand for compressed air and therefore the power supply will be increased.

To monitor and attend to these problems right away, installations of electronic sensors will immediately indicate mechanical or electrical fault in the valves. An alarm will be send back to the master controller so action can be taken.

Another common pollution factor for the manufacturing plants with dust collectors is the leaking of dust through thorned dust bags. Many companies have not installed sufficient monitoring system in place, but rely on manual checking on a regular interval. This procedure causes significant dust concentrations being sent out through the clean air stack.

To avoid any dust pollution you can electronically monitor your dust emission. To electronically monitor the dust emission a dust sensor connected to a master controller, which controls the pulsing, will give an alarm right away when dust has been detected and you can take action immediately to address the problem.

Automated preventative systems in dust extractors will give you significant savings in your production costs, you are seen as environmentally responsible and your occupational health and safety procedures become significantly enhanced.
